The Spirit of the Beehive

Ana (Ana Torrent) is a small girl in a Castilian village in 1940, just after the Spanish Civil War, and she watches a traveling screening of Frankenstein with her older sister Isabel (Isabel Tellería). Afterward Isabel tells her the monster isn't dead, that he lives as a spirit in a barn out on the plain. Víctor Erice lets the wide, quiet landscape and the silences in Ana's house carry the story.
