It is 1977, and a British submarine and a Russian one, each carrying nuclear missiles, have vanished without a trace. London and Moscow blame each other, and James Bond (Roger Moore) is sent to find out where the ships went. Lewis Gilbert puts him alongside Major Anya Amasova (Barbara Bach), the KGB agent working the same case, with both governments watching the clock.
