The Star

“The story of a woman...who thought she was a star so high in the sky no man could touch her!”

In 1952 Hollywood, Margaret Elliot (Bette Davis) is a former star past her prime who will not hear the word retirement. Her daughter Gretchen (Natalie Wood) and Jim Johannsen (Sterling Hayden), a friend from the old days who loves her, both tell her to let go, while she keeps chasing one coveted role. Stuart Heisler keeps the camera close on Davis and gives her no way to look away from herself.
