The Stolen Children

Antonio (Enrico Lo Verso), a young carabiniere in Milan, wants only to finish a routine order and hand two children over at an orphanage in Sicily. Rosetta (Valentina Scalici) is eleven, and her brother Luciano (Giuseppe Ieracitano) is younger, both taken from a mother arrested for forcing the girl into prostitution. Gianni Amelio keeps the camera close and unhurried on the long journey south.
