The Story of Adèle H.
“What kind of woman would wait her whole life for one man...? And what kind of man would deny her...?”
Adèle Hugo (Isabelle Adjani), the daughter of the writer Victor Hugo, crosses the ocean from Europe to North America alone, giving a false name and telling almost no one why she has come. She has followed Lieutenant Albert Pinson (Bruce Robinson), a handsome officer who has made it clear he wants nothing more to do with her. Truffaut, working from Adèle's own diaries, stays close to a woman who writes him letters he does not answer and keeps waiting anyway.
