The Story of Louis Pasteur

(1936)Directed by William Dieterle86 minDrama, History
“If This Story Didn't Have a Happy Ending YOU and YOU and YOU Might Not Be Alive Today to See It...”

Louis Pasteur (Paul Muni) is a French chemist who wants doctors to wash their hands and believes disease is carried by living microbes. The physicians of his day, among them Dr. Charbonnet (Fritz Leiber), dismiss him as an outsider with no medical training. William Dieterle follows him as he sets out to prove it, and the whole film argues that cleanliness and vaccination save more lives than any doctor's authority.
