The Story of Marie and Julien

Julien Müller (Jerzy Radziwiłowicz) is a clockmaker with a taste for ruin, and he decides to blackmail Madame X (Anne Brochet), a wealthy woman who deals in stolen antiques. Jacques Rivette follows the scheme as it leads him to Marie (Emmanuelle Béart), a woman he fell for a year earlier. Julien has his own plans for Madame X, but he cannot account for how Marie drew him in.
