The Story of Vernon and Irene Castle

(1939)Directed by H. C. Potter93 min · PGMusic, Romance
“Dazzling entertainment rainbowed by memory's most haunting hit melodies!”

Vernon Castle (Fred Astaire) is a minor stage comic in 1911 who meets Irene Foote (Ginger Rogers), a young woman desperate to be on the stage. They marry, give up comedy, and try dancing as a pair, and an agent watches them rehearse in Paris and starts them toward fame as the foremost ballroom dancers. H. C. Potter's film, drawn from Irene Castle's memoirs, treats a marriage and a partnership as the same thing, with World War I arriving at the height of their fame.
