The Strange Monsieur Victor

Monsieur Victor (Raimu) kills a partner who threatens to expose him, using a shoemaker's tool, and lets an innocent local shoemaker take the ten years of hard labour. Seven years on, the man escapes and walks back into Toulon, and the first face that knows him is Victor's. Grémillon keeps Victor courteous to his customers and gentle with his wife Madeleine (Madeleine Renaud), a man still living with the same shop and the same quiet manners.
