The Strange Ones

(1950)Directed by Jean-Pierre Melville107 minDrama
“A love story by Jean Cocteau”

Elisabeth (Nicole Stéphane) shuts herself away with her brother Paul (Édouard Dermithe) after a snowball fight leaves him injured, and the two build a private dream together out of games and rituals. The jealousy runs under it from the start, and it sharpens when Elisabeth invites Agathe (Renée Cosima) to stay and Paul is drawn to her at once. Jean-Pierre Melville adapts Cocteau's novel, and Cocteau himself narrates it.
