The Strangler

Women are turning up dead across the city, and Lt. Frank Benson (David McLean) has nothing but a string of victims who share a profession, all of them nurses. Burt Topper puts the killer in plain view early, Leo Kroll (Victor Buono), a heavyset lab technician who lives under his mother's thumb. The film sits with Leo more than with the police, and what holds it together is the strained, ordinary bond between a grown man and the mother who has shaped him.
