Captain Harry Lewis (Guy Rolfe) serves the East India Company in 1826 India, where caravans and shipments keep vanishing and his superiors wave it off as bad luck on the roads. He is the one officer who sees a pattern in the disappearances, and he starts digging at the risk of his career. Terence Fisher films the investigation as a slow accumulation of bodies and evidence, set against the cult's worship of Kali.
