The Strawberry Statement

(1970)Directed by Stuart Hagmann109 minDrama, Romance
“They're young and feel everything more deeply... and there's so much to feel deeply about.”

Why would a rower who cares more about meeting girls than about politics end up inside a campus occupation? Simon (Bruce Davison) walks into the student protest at his San Francisco university only because Linda (Kim Darby) is somewhere in it, and the fight is over a gymnasium the school wants to build. Stuart Hagmann shoots the crowds in a rough, grainy light, and Simon moves through them with his rowing coach's whistle somewhere behind him.
