The Student

“The hypocrisy of religion and society that challenges all of us.”

Veniamin (Petr Skvortsov) is a high school student who has decided the world is lost to evil, and he wants the adults around him to answer for it. He turns on his mother (Yuliya Aug), his gym teacher, and the biology teacher Elena Lvovna Krasnova (Viktoriya Isakova), who stays patient with him longest. Serebrennikov, working from Marius von Mayenburg's play Märtyrer, follows a boy who treats every challenge to his beliefs as proof he is right.
