The Student of Prague

(1926)Directed by Henrik Galeen133 minHorror, Drama

In Prague, Balduin (Conrad Veidt) is a penniless student who has grown tired of the beer parties and the sword fights with his fellow students. He wants to be loved, but he cannot imagine a woman of any standing looking at someone with his empty pockets, and he barely notices Lyduschka (Elizza La Porta), who pays him attention. Henrik Galeen's film turns on a stranger's offer of a fortune, and the story is how far a poor man's longing for a better life can take him.
