Why would a prince raised for a throne leave his court and give up his place for a university town? Prince Karl Heinrich (Ramon Novarro) arrives in old Heidelberg with his tutor Dr. Jüttner (Jean Hersholt), and he finds Kathi (Norma Shearer), a barmaid whose company he can't stay away from. Ernst Lubitsch tells it as a silent picture, in the glances and small gestures of its two leads.
