The Sugarland Express

“A girl with a great following. Every cop in the state was after her. Everybody else was behind her.”

Lou Jean Poplin (Goldie Hawn) springs her husband Clovis (William Atherton) from jail, then the two of them steal their son back from the foster home where Texas has placed him. A highway patrolman ends up in their car as a hostage, and a long line of police cruisers fills in behind them across the state. Steven Spielberg shoots the chase from low and close, and the road runs on at a speed the Poplins cannot get off.
