In 1920s France and Spain, a circle of American expatriates drinks, quarrels and drifts from one café to the next. Jake Barnes (Tyrone Power) and Lady Brett Ashley (Ava Gardner) sit at the center of it, with Mike Campbell (Errol Flynn) and Robert Cohn (Mel Ferrer) circling the same woman. Henry King follows them to Pamplona for the running of the bulls, where the friendships and the wanting are all on the line.
