The Surfer (Nicolas Cage) comes back to the beach where he grew up, wanting to teach his son to surf the waves he remembers. A group of locals led by Scally (Julian McMahon) turns him away, and he refuses to leave. Lorcan Finnegan films the Australian coast in flat, bleached light and lets the heat press on the man until the tension tightens.
