Charles Brandon (Richard Todd) is a commoner at the court of Henry VIII, and he has fallen for the king's younger sister, Princess Mary Tudor (Glynis Johns). Henry (James Robertson Justice) has other plans for her, a political marriage to the King of France, and Ken Annakin sets the romance against the crowded rooms and wealth of Tudor England. Mary wants a husband she has chosen, Charles wants Mary, and neither can say so openly.
