The Tale of Genji

Hikaru Genji (Morio Kazama) is the emperor's son, admired across the Kyoto court for his charm and his looks. He still cannot stop wanting the one woman he is forbidden to have, his father's young bride Fujitsubo (Reiko Ōhara). He drifts from one affair to the next, always looking for a completion to his life. Gisaburō Sugii animates the court in the style of old scroll painting.
