At 21, Stephen Hawking (Eddie Redmayne) is a Cambridge physics student with a mind that moves faster than his body, until a diagnosis of motor neurone disease gives him two years and no explanation. Jane Wilde (Felicity Jones), a fellow student, stays beside him, and James Marsh follows their marriage across three decades. Stephen keeps working on the thing he has least of, time, while Jane carries the weight of staying.
