The Thick-Walled Room
Yamashita (Torahiko Hamada) is one of a group of ordinary soldiers locked up in Sugamo Prison, convicted of crimes against humanity for what they did in the war. Among his cellmates are Yokota (Kō Mishima) and Kimura (Tsutomu Shimomoto), men who followed orders and now answer for them alone. Masaki Kobayashi finished the film in 1953, but it sat unreleased until 1956.
