The Things of Life

Pierre Bérard (Michel Piccoli), a successful architect, is driving toward Rennes while his mind keeps leaving the road, pulled between his unsettled present with his younger lover Hélène (Romy Schneider) and the easy years he once had with his ex-wife Catherine (Lea Massari). Claude Sautet follows the crossroads on that drive and the events that come before and after it. Pierre cannot choose between the two women, and neither of them can quite let him go.
