The Third Man

(1949)Directed by Carol Reed105 minThriller, Mystery
“Hunted by men ... Sought by WOMEN!”

Holly Martins (Joseph Cotten) writes pulp Westerns and arrives in postwar Vienna with no money, expecting his old friend Harry Lime (Orson Welles) to give him a job. Lime is already dead, and a witness mentions a third man at the scene, which Major Calloway (Trevor Howard) would rather Martins drop. Carol Reed has Martins keep asking, and he keeps drifting toward Anna Schmidt (Alida Valli), who is still grieving Harry.
