In 1949 Los Angeles, Arnold "Red" Kluger (Charles McGraw) breaks out of prison with one thing on his mind. He kidnaps Detective Ray Williams (Michael O'Shea) and District Attorney Barker MacDonald (Frank Conroy), the two men who put him away, and his gang takes them both. Felix E. Feist keeps the whole picture short and clenched, giving the men barely a room to move in.
