D'Artagnan (Michael York) is a young man from the provinces who rides into 17th-century France sure he will be made a King's Musketeer. Instead he falls in with Athos (Oliver Reed), Porthos (Frank Finlay) and Aramis (Richard Chamberlain), who pull him into the schemes Cardinal Richelieu is running against King Louis XIII. Richard Lester treats the whole business as high spirits, where loyalty to your friends counts for more than the cause.
