In 1966 Naples, the treasure of San Gennaro sits in a cathedral vault, and two Americans, Maggie (Senta Berger) and Jack (Harry Guardino), plan to be the ones to rob it. To get inside they need local help, so they recruit Dudù (Nino Manfredi), Sciascillo (Mario Adorf) and the veteran safecracker Don Vincenzo (Totò). Dino Risi sets the crew loose in the city's crowded streets, where Dudù and Maggie start to notice each other.
