The Trial of Joan of Arc

Jeanne d'Arc (Florence Delay), captured by French soldiers of the opposing faction in 1431, wants only to answer the court in Rouen with the truth as she knows it. The ecclesiastical judges, led by Bishop Cauchon (Jean-Claude Fourneau) and overseen by her English enemies, take her words down and press her again. Robert Bresson keeps the camera on the two sides of the questioning, a girl and the men who need her to say otherwise.
