The Trip to Bountiful
Mrs. Carrie Watts (Geraldine Page) sneaks out of her cramped Houston apartment in the 1940s, hoping to catch a bus to Bountiful, the small Texas town she still calls home. Her son Ludie (John Heard) and his wife Jessie Mae (Carlin Glynn) keep close watch on her, and she has to slip past both of them to get away. Peter Masterson, adapting Horton Foote's play, lets Page carry the trip at an old woman's pace, and the camera stays close on her.
