The Turning Point

(1977)Directed by Herbert Ross119 min · PGDrama, Romance
“The generations change. But the choices remain the same.”

Years ago, Deedee (Shirley MacLaine) and Emma (Anne Bancroft) were best friends and fierce rivals in the same ballet company, and only one of them kept dancing. Herbert Ross picks the story up when Deedee's teenage daughter Emilia (Leslie Browne) is invited to join Emma's company, and the two women are pulled back into a feud they never settled. Emilia sits on a bench in a dim studio corridor, lacing her pointe shoes, while Emma watches from the other end.
