The Two Popes

“Inspired by true events.”

Cardinal Bergoglio (Jonathan Pryce) wants out of the job he has done for years in Buenos Aires, and in 2012 he asks Pope Benedict XVI (Anthony Hopkins) for permission to retire. Benedict, shaken by scandal and doubting himself, answers by summoning his most outspoken critic to Rome instead. Fernando Meirelles sets the two men in long conversation, and what Benedict has to confess could reshape the Church after both of them are gone.
