The Unbearable Lightness of Being
“A lovers’ story.”
Tomas (Daniel Day-Lewis) is a Prague surgeon who sleeps with many women and keeps a steady arrangement with the bohemian artist Sabina (Lena Olin). Then a young photographer, Tereza (Juliette Binoche), follows him home from a trip, and the Soviet invasion of 1968 pushes all three toward Switzerland. Philip Kaufman ends on Tomas and Tereza, the two of them turned toward each other and still carrying everything they could not make light.
