The Unbelievable Truth

“Can a nice girl from Long Island find happiness with a mass murderer?”

Josh (Robert John Burke) comes home to his small town after prison, and nobody can say for sure what he was convicted of. Audry (Adrienne Shelly) is a teenager preoccupied with the end of the world, and she meets him there. Hal Hartley directs the whole thing in flat, even line readings, so every odd remark lands as though it were perfectly ordinary.
