The United States vs. Billie Holiday
“Her voice would not be silenced.”
Billie Holiday (Andra Day) wants to keep singing "Strange Fruit," the ballad that makes her a star and a target in 1940s America. Harry Anslinger (Garrett Hedlund) heads a federal narcotics bureau that sees her as a way to stop the song, and it sends Jimmy Fletcher (Trevante Rhodes) to get close to her. Lee Daniels lets that assignment grow into a bond between Billie and Jimmy that neither of them planned.
