Chicago, 1930: Prohibition has made Al Capone (Robert De Niro) untouchable, his empire protected by crooked cops and judges. Federal agent Eliot Ness (Kevin Costner) assembles a small team, including an Irish cop named Jim Malone (Sean Connery), to build a case against him. De Palma orchestrates the investigation like a heist, each scene accelerating toward confrontation, the violence sudden and the betrayals closer than anyone expects.
