The Upside of Anger

“Sometimes what tears us apart helps us put it back together.”

Terry Wolfmeyer (Joan Allen) wakes to find her husband gone, run off with his secretary, and she is left alone with four daughters and a house to hold together. Next door, Denny Davies (Kevin Costner), a former baseball player, keeps her company through the drinking that follows, and Mike Binder lets their friendship settle in around the kitchen table. Terry pours another glass and stays angry, though she can see her daughters leaning on Denny more every week.
