The Valley

“Obscured by clouds”

Vivian (Bulle Ogier), the wife of a French consul, has come to New Guinea to buy exotic feathers to sell in Paris. She meets four European travelers heading for a valley the maps mark as obscured by clouds, and she goes with them, led by Olivier (Michael Gothard) and Gaëtan (Jean-Pierre Kalfon). Barbet Schroeder follows her up into the mountains, where the errand she arrived with matters less with each day of walking.
