Harald Reinl sends Old Shatterhand (Lex Barker) and the Apache chief Winnetou (Pierre Brice) after the missing wagons, with the frontiersman Sam Hawkens (Ralf Wolter) tagging along. Old Shatterhand takes the job on a man's word, and the soldiers' names are all he has to clear.
