Five strangers step out of a lift into a basement vault, a windowless room where they sit down together and start trading their recurring nightmares. Among the tales are Donna Rogers (Anna Massey) and a dinner that goes wrong, and Arthur Critchit (Terry-Thomas), a man with an insurance scheme. Roy Ward Baker, following Tales from the Crypt, keeps the camera in the vault and lets each story arrive as a spoken account.
