The Vertical Ray of the Sun

Lien (Trần Nữ Yên Khê) is one of three sisters in Hanoi, each trying to work out how she wants to live and whom she wants to love. Trần Anh Hùng fills the film with birdsong, insects and running water, and lights each room in soft color. Lien and her sister Suong (Như Quỳnh) share a house and the long habit of knowing each other without having to explain themselves.
