A small Pennsylvania village sits ringed by woods its people will not enter, because of the creatures said to live there. Lucius Hunt (Joaquin Phoenix) wants to cross that border anyway, and what follows begins to change the community. M. Night Shyamalan keeps Ivy Walker (Bryce Dallas Howard), who cannot see, close to him, and she is the one who ends up facing what lies past the trees.
