The Bronx in 1963 belongs to the gangs, and the Wanderers, a crew of Italian-American teenagers, hold a corner of it against the Baldies and the Wongs. Philip Kaufman follows Richie (Ken Wahl), Joey (John Friedrich) and the rest through Richard Price's novel, with Nina (Karen Allen) pulling at the edges of the group. Every fight with a rival crew puts a little more of what these friends share on the line.
