The War Is Over
Diego (Yves Montand) is a chief of the Spanish Communist Party, a tired man who travels between Madrid and Paris under borrowed names. Stopped at the border for an ID check, he slips away and reaches Paris, where he has to find a comrade before that man crosses into Madrid and is arrested. Alain Resnais follows him through the city with Marianne (Ingrid Thulin) waiting for him, and Montand keeps the same worn expression from one false name to the next.
