Clayton Forrester (Gene Barry) is a scientist on a fishing trip in a small Southern California town when a flaming meteor comes down in the hills. He and Sylvia Van Buren (Ann Robinson) go to look, and what lies in the crater is the first of many Martian machines, impervious to any weapon men can bring, the atomic bomb included. Byron Haskin sets H. G. Wells's invasion in 1950s California, and the work won the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects.
