“To honour a promise. To find his sons. To make his peace.”

Joshua Connor (Russell Crowe), an Australian farmer in 1919, wants to bring his three sons home from Turkey, though all three were reported missing in action. He sets out for the war-torn country holding on to hope, and an Ottoman officer, Major Hasan (Yılmaz Erdoğan), stands among those he meets there. Crowe, directing for the first time, keeps the search on one man's slow progress across the ground where they disappeared.
