When Byron (Harrison Knight) pushes his antics too far, his parents Wilona (Anika Noni Rose) and Daniel (Wood Harris) decide the family needs a stretch with Grandma Sands in Birmingham, Alabama. In the summer of 1963 the Watsons leave Flint, Michigan and drive south in their 1948 Plymouth Brown Bomber. Director Kenny Leon sets the five of them inside that old car, rolling toward Grandma Sands' house.
