Kristian Eikjord (Kristoffer Joner) is a geologist in the Norwegian fjord town of Geiranger, packing up his job to move his family south. Roar Uthaug sets the film in the days before the Åkerneset crevice gives way, a collapse everyone had theorised and no one was ready for. Kristian's wife Idun (Ane Dahl Torp) and their children are beside him, with a mountain pass above the narrow fjord and a wave over 300 feet high coming down it.
