The Way Back

“Every loss is another fight.”

Jack Cunningham (Ben Affleck) works construction, drinks from the moment the day allows it, and has lost his wife and nearly everything else he once counted on. He was a basketball star at the Catholic high school he attended, and when the school asks him to coach its struggling team, he says yes. Gavin O'Connor stays close on Jack through the practices and the empty apartment afterward, giving the drinking the same plain attention as the games.
