The Weight of Water

(2001)Directed by Kathryn Bigelow113 min · RMystery, Drama, Thriller
“Hell hath no fury...”

A photographer's research into two murders on the Isles of Shoals in 1873 keeps drawing her toward the one woman who lived through them. Jean Janes (Catherine McCormack) takes the assignment while sailing the islands with her husband Thomas (Sean Penn), his brother Rich (Josh Lucas) and Adaline (Elizabeth Hurley). Kathryn Bigelow cuts between that boat and the immigrant witness Maren (Sarah Polley), and the two women's lives begin to rhyme.
